Liberty Estate Wheat Ale is deliciously approachable with lush leavened bread character supporting fruity esters and a delicate spice note on top.

We created Liberty as a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary by looking ahead to the next 250 years. The beer is named after Liberty wheat — a new variety from Virginia Tech that’s bred for the next generation of beer. It’s a call to action for what the future of truly local beer can be: from and for the community where it’s grown and brewed.

Liberty isn’t only a powerful idea to us — it can also be something that you see, touch, and taste. Liberty in farming means the freedom to grow the grain you choose. Liberty in brewing means the freedom to brew the beer you intend rather than the beer you’re permitted.

Commemorating our nation’s 250th anniversary, we’re reminded that the founders were looking ahead to what could be. Instead of reenacting a beer from the past that can slip into historical cosplay, this beer looks ahead. It’s a truly Virginia beer focused on the future of our community and nearby family farms.

NAMED AFTER THE GRAIN.

Liberty Estate Wheat Ale takes its name from Liberty wheat, similar to a wine grape variety that gives wine its name and personality. Like a winemaker who plants Viognier for what it expresses in the glass, we grow Liberty wheat for what it delivers in the beer: character rooted in place.

Every single grain in Liberty Estate Wheat Ale — Liberty wheat and a new barley type, also from Virginia Tech — is grown at Wheatland Spring using regenerative practices on land worked since 1832. The water comes from the natural source on-site. The beer is brewed with 100% renewable energy. Even the hops come from a Virginia farm.
